BOWLING.
MATAMATA CLUB. HOWDEN SHIELD PRESENTED. Six teams of bowlers visited Matamata on Saturday afternoon the occasion being tbe presentation of the Howden Shield. Mr W. Egan, president, welcomed the visiting bowlers and introduced Mr Pilkinglon as president of the South Auckland Bowling Centre and a member of the Dominion Council Board, and wished everyone a pleasant afternoon. Mr R. Pilkington, presented the shield to the winning Matamata team, Messrs Oates, Green, Crabb and Stewart (skip). In tile course of a short speech Mr Pilkington congratulated the club on its success during ihe year in winning the Clothier Shield, and the Goldsfiekl Stare, the latter for the third year in succession with a •rink composed of Oates, Mclntyre, Livingstone and Stewart. He also congratulated the rink which won the Tauranga tournament and cup, the rink consisting of Simpson, Were, Crabb and Livingstone. In the No. 2 tournament at Rotorua, Banks, Oates, Crabb and Livingstone won ten successive games and were only beaten in the semi-final. Teams from the club won their own tournament and a second team was the run-ner-up. The Fraser Stars were held for the season by Crickett and Livingstone.
