The Hawke Gup cricket match between Manawatu (holders) and Rangitikei concluded to-day. Manawatu’s second innings closed for 352. four runs short of the required total. The last man went to the wicket with four runs to secure to win, but he was caught off the first ball, the match ending sensationally in a win for Rangitikei after live days’ play. A cricket match was played at Morrinsville on Saturday between teams from Te Aroha and Morrinsville, and alhough time did not permit of the match being finished, the Morrinsville team showed the best form. Batting first, they made 207 for the loss of nine wickets. They then declared their innings closed. Mallett (71) and Jones, who retired with his score at 29, were the highest scorers in the Morrinsville team. Te Aroha made a poor response Firth 24, Archer 10, and Woods 11 were the only players to make double figures, and at the call of time the team had secured only 71 for the loss of seven wickets.
