ROUND THE WORLD

CYCLIST ON TOUR. ARRIVAL IN HAMILTON. Mr E. Wadsworth, who has just completed a 'bicycle tour of Australia, covering no less than 10,050 miles and thus breaking the previous record of 8200 miles put up by Mr F. Birtles, the well-known explorer, some 20 years ago, has arrived in Hamilton. Mr Wadsworth will tour New Zealand on the second stage of his contemplated tour of the world. A native of Victoria, Australia, this ambitiou scyelist left Perth (W.A.) on .January 27 last year in an attempt to establish a fresh world’s mileage record. To date he has had to renew nine Lyres and replace the front wheel of his machine on six occasinos. Known in cycle circles as "the flying Arab,” Mr Wadsworth was formerly secretary of the new defunct Armadale National Cyclists’ Union of Victoria and a well-known competing cyclist. In Australia recently he won the Cheadle Cup, and although meeting with misfortune in the last Warranambool to Melbourne (168 miles) road race, finished well up. In Tasmania he defeated J. Kelly, North-west champion of Tasmania, al Latrobe. As secretary of the Armadale N.C.U. “the flying Arab” had such riders in the union as Herbert Opperman, J. Beath, R. Watson, and other champions. Mr Wadsworth set out with nothing but a signwriter’s 'Outfit, and pays his way by utilising his talents in this direction.
