CRICKET COMPETITIONS IN HAMILTON.
GOOD SCORES RECORDED ON SATURDAY. EAST ASSURED OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Y.M.C.A.’S FINE DISPLAY IN SENIOR B. In the cricket games played in Hamilton on Saturday under ideal conditions many fine batting displays were given. The wickets were hard and true and presented little difficulty to the batsmen who made some good individual scores. Hamilton East, as the outcome of a three-point victory over Frankton are in a safe position for the championship. Hamilton played a fine innings in the latest series and comfortably exceeded Old Boys’ good total, a three-pointer victory going to the former. In the Senior B Competition there was also interesting cricket on Saturday, Y.mC.A. being in prominent run-getting form during the afternoon. The Senior A cricket table with one more match be decided shows Hamilton East 24 points; Hamilton 16 points, Frankton 9 points and Old Boys 7 points. TOP SCORERS.. SENIOR A. N. CERTAIN CHAMPIONS. EAST DEFEAT FRANKTON. ‘ WIDE FIRST INNINGS' MARGIN. Hamilton East made their success in the Hamilton Senior A cricket competition certain when they defeated Frankton by a wide margin on the first innings. East batting the preceding Saturday compiled 2SO while Frankton had two wickets down for 23. W. Lee and Wilmoth 'the notout men, opened slowly but warmed up later' and put on 64 runs before Lee was caught and bowled by Skeet. Mills and St. George of the following batsmen were the only two to get going, the innings closing for 169. Hamilton East went in again, and R. Going delighted the spectators by hitting hard, registering four 6's and six 4’s in his tally of 67. East declared their innings closed with 7 wickets down for 164.
Frankton went to the crease once again, Mills and Lee opening. Mills was caught in the first over and Wilmott partnered Lee. HAMILTON’S. SUCCESS, DEFEAT OF OLD BOYS. A THREE-POINTER GAINED. Old Boys, despite their good first innings total the previous week, were defeated on the first innings by Hamilton on No. 1 wicket at Seddon Park on Saturday. Old Boys had compiled 215 on the first day and Hamilton had scored 115 runs for the loss of one wicket when slumps were drawn. T. A. Campbell and N. Winger, the not-out men, carried the total to 142 at Which stage Campbell was clean bowled by Horspool with 24 to his credit. Winger continued to bat confidently .and had reached a well played 76 before he was dismissed leg before to Clough. The remaining batsmen made steady progress and the innings closed for 239. High scoring was the order of the day in the match between Y.M.C.A. and Cambridge on No. 4, Seddon Park. The visitors took first strike, and when five wickets had fallen their score stood at 203 (Garrard 110 not out), at which stage they declared. Y.M.C.A. then opened their account and knocked up 280 runs with the loss of threec wickets. Of this tally 205 were scored ir. the first threequarters of an hour, while the first twelve overs yielded 212. Both Eyre and Parrant retired with Jl4 runs each to their credit. Two matches were played between girls and boys' teams at Matamata on I Saturday morning. The visiting girls
were successful, and the local boys won their match. Following were the details:— Girls’ Match. ( Matamata. —First innings 41, Jean Wilson 11 being the chief contributor; second innings 25, Nance Caitcheon 7. Tc Aroha, first innings 48, Maud Johansen 12, and Phyllis Barker 8, not out, being the chief contributors; second innings 34, Jean Frear'9. The bowlers for Tc Aroha were Kathleen Mahigay, Maud Johansen and Marjorie Smith, while Millie Mason and Leila Blackburn did the trundling for Matamata, Boys’ Match. Te Aroha batted first, and were disposed of for 16 runs, Bidois and Ilill going through the side. Matamata fared better, Hill 10, Simpson 11 and Hawke 9, batting well towards a total of 47. Graham and Magill did the howling for the visitors. HIGH SCHOOLS’ MATCH. TAURANGA v. MORRINSVILLE. TAU'RANGA, Saturday. A match played to-day between teams representing the Tauranga arid Morrinsville High Schools resulted in a victory for Tauranga. Tauranga made 40 runs in its first innings, and 61 in the second. Morrinsville scored 23 runs in the first innings and 7 in the second innings. H. Neno, bowling for Tauranga, look thirteen wickets for 17 runs, and P. Sander seven for 13 runs. GAMES AT AUCKLAND. SEVERAL CENTURIES MADE. AUCKLAND, Saturday. North Shore, first innings 235 (Smith 100 not out) ; Eden, first innings one wicket for 18. Ponsonby, in their first innings against United Suburbs, made 347 for the loss of four wickets (Taylor 130, Smith 109). University, first innings 236; Parnell, first innings no wickets for 8. Grafton, in their first innings against Y.M.C.A., lost eight wickets for 266 (Allcolt 101). AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Riccarton won the final of the cricket championship, defeating Old Bovs bv 14 runs on the first innings.
