A GENERAL ELECTION.
LABOUR LEADER’S VIEWSSTRIVING FOR POWER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Saturday. The Buller Labour Representation Committee arranged for Mr 11. E. ■Holland, the Leader of the Labour Party, to address industrial unions in the Buller electorate on the political situation and the Labour Party’s national campaign. In line with this arrangement, Mr Holland spoke before a well-attended meeting of the Westport General Labourers’ Union last evening, when he reaffirmed his statement, made recently to the Wesctport branch of the Labour Party.. He warned unionists that an election was Quite possible before the end of the present year, and urged that it was their clear duty to stand’prepared. If the Reform Party should again come into power it would, of course, mean reversion to that party’s wages policy of 12s and 9s a day, and the United Party’s failure left them with no' alternative whatever but to strive to place a Labour Government on the Treasury Benches. The meeting unanimously resolved on a minimum contribution of 5s per member to the Labour Party’s national campaign funds wit-hin a stated period, and also pledged the union to give every support to the party in the event of an election. During this coming week-end Mr Holland is addressing meetings of various Miners’ Unions.
