OBITUARY

LATE MR E. D. UOYSEV. Another early Waikato settler lias been removed by the death at his home •• Warwick,” Hamilton East, yesterday of Mr Edwin Doran Voysey, aged 76. The late Mr V,oysey arrived in Dunedin from England 53 years ago, the voyage taking 92 days. After spending two or three years on a sheep station in Central Otago he came to the Waihou district and took part in pioneering work at a lime when railways and good roads were unknown. Mr Voysey was contracting in road-making, draining, etc., for a number of years before acquiring a portion of the Rangialea Estate, lie disposed of Ibis in 1912, since when lie lias lived in retirement at To Aroha, Auckland and for tiic last nine years at Hamilton. in .1881. he married a daughter of Mr Peter Sweeney, of Wailoa. The late Mr Voysey was a man of a retiring nature and a keen churchman. lie is survived by his wife and an adult family of eight—Mrs W. Vcrcoe. Waitoa; -Mrs W. J. Dickey, Awhitu Central; -Mrs M. Timmins, To Aroha; Mrs A. Williamson, Papakura; Mrs W. U. Cole, Hamilton; and Messrs E. F. Voysey, Sydney; W. A. Voysey, Shaftesbury, and J. H. Voysey, Hamilton. One son was .killed in the war. There are 19 grandchildren and foui great-grandchildren. DR. a. T. SMITH. PAEROA, Friday. The death has occurred of Dr. Gilbert Thomas Smith, an old resident of Paeroa. Dr. Smith was born in .Bedford, England, in 1853. lie practised for 10 years in London before coming to New Zealand, where be practised in Whangaroi, Mercury Bay and Te Aroha before settling in Paeroa in 1900.
