CRICKET IN HAMILTON.

TO-MORROW’S MATCHES. CHAMPIONSHIP AT STAKE. INTERESTING PLAY PROMISED. To-niorrow will be a day of important issues in the local competitions under the control of the Waikato Cricket Association. With the competitions nearing the end, interest in the result has reached a high pitch and with suitable conditions, players can be counted on to put forward their best efforts. Hamilton East have only to beat Frankton to win the championship. They made 280 at their first strike last Saturday, Frankton having lost two wickets for 23 at stumps. The latter will probably he forced to follow on to-morrow. Old Boys arc likely to have a tough fight against Hamilton in the concluding day’s play to-morrow. With only one wicket down, Hamilton should have little difficulty in compiling a further 100 runs to bring them level and their prospects of overtaking Old Boys are very favourable. The senior B competition will progress a further stage to-morrow with matches between Frankton and High School, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton East and Cambridge and Y.M.C.A. SEMI-FINALS PLAYED. The close of the R. T. Reid Cup cricket competition is drawing near, the semi-final matches being played this week. On account of the failing light stumps are drawn at 6 p.m., but three nights have been allotted to each game. Stock Auctioneers and Wholesalers were the winners and runners-up of the A section and Timber Workers and Peerless of the B section. Stock Auctioneers v. Timber Workers and Wholesalers v. Peerless are the semifinalists, the Peerless v. Wholesalers’ game being decided. Wholesalers had a three-point win on the first innings. Peerless batted first and were dismissed for 64, Smith 19, Henderson 11. Skeet took six wickets for eight runs. Wholesalers replied with 77 for the loss of two wickets—Skeet 26, Mann, not out, 28. Timberworkers v. Auctioneers [ Timber Workers have commenced well in their match against Auctioneers, having compiled 99 runs for the loss of four wickets. R. Clough 62, A. McCracken, not out, 10; K. Howard 10. t Continuing the match last evening Timberworkers declared with eight eight wickets down for 160 (Frodsham 32 not out), and when stumps were drawn Stock Auctioneers had one wicket down for 22. The game will be 'continued next week.
