It is understood that Gandhi is disappointed at the results of his march to the sea coast. He received little hospitality or support from the villagers in the beach district, and a large number of village headmen who resigned under pressure from Gandhi have now applied to the Government for reinstatement. This has caused bitterness among the Mahattma’s followers, whose morale is already suffering by reason of the fact that nearly thirty of their number have fallen out owing to sickness. It is considered in Government quarters that if authorities combine firmness and patience, Gandhi’s campaign will prove a complete fiasco. NATIONALISTS’ CAMPAIGN. PLANS' IN THE PUNJAB. The town of Gujranwala, which was the scene of fierce rioting in the revolutionary outbreak of 1919, has been chosen by the Punjab Nationalists as the centre for the start of the provincial civil independence campaign. Detachments of Nationalist volunteeis from Lahore will on Sunday, April 6, hoist the Indian national flag over the Town Hall in defiance of Government orders. Thirtv-four congress workers were arrested in the united provinces for carrying out propaganda work in connection with Gandhi’s campaign.
