Nanking’s seeming indifference towards the combined revolt by General Yen Hsi-shan and General Feng Yu-hsiang is merely superficial- Extensive preparations to resist the northern offensive are reported to be now completed. Foreign observers consider that general hostilities will break out within three weeks. The Nanking Government is confident of victory, and is relying on General. Chiang Kai-shek’s defences to defeat the anti-Government mentAccording to latest information received from the Tsingpu railway and Hankow fronts, the National forces have built an elaborate system of defences, extending from Hsu-chow along Hie entire strategic front, the Tsingpu line construction work having been completed three months previously, following the mutiny .in Shill yusan and Pukow in December. The defences are being arranged under the direction of German military advisers.
