FALSE PRETENCES.
ARREST AT HAMILTON. ELDERLY MAN PLEADS GUILTY. 'Bv Telcg-raph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. How John Ryan, alias Hamilton, aged GO, who was arrested at Hamilton, imposed on some of the largest firms in Auckland, obtaining nearly £•100 in goods and money by valueless cheques, was told in the Police Court to-day, when he pleaded guilty to nine 'charges of false pretences. Ryan had £7O when arrested on some other charges, for which tie was dealt with in a country Court. Chief Detective Hammond said most of the clothing accused got by fraud was thrown into the harbour, lie said he did not want it. .Mr Hunt. S.M.. said accused had written him a letter from gaol. He would read this and remand Ryan- till 10-morrow for sentence.
