WAIKATO RUGBY UNION

ANNUAL REPORT. A SUCCESSFUL. SEASON. The annual report of the Waikato (Rugby Union, 'which will be presented At the annual meeting to-morrow evening, states that the 1929 season was a very successful one, 12 games In all being played. The representative team went on tour in July to the East Coast and played live games, one of which was won, one drawn and three lost. The outstanding game of the tour was against Hawke’s Bay, at 'Hastings, each team scoring 11 points after a splendid exhibition of Rugby. The following interprovincial matches were played during the season:— Waikato 17 v. Auckland 25, at Hamilton. Waikato 27 v. King Country 8, at Te Awamutu. Waikato 11 v- Hawke’s Bay 11, at Hastings. Waikato 6 v. Wairoa 8, at Walroa. Waikato 15 v. East Coast 11, at rtuatoria. x. Waikato 3 v. Poverty Bay, 16, at jisborne. Waikato S v. Bay of Plenty M, at vVhakatane. Waikato 0 v. Auckland 30, at- Auckland. Waikato 3 v. Hawke’s Bay 11, at Hamilton. Waikato 12, v. Thames Valley 11, at PaerOa. Waikato 21 v- Canterbury 17, at Hamilton. Waikato 6 v. Wellington 22, at Hamilton. Points'for, 129; against, 191. Won 4, lost 7, drawn 1. Special mention is made of the success of Mr J. Tuck, of the Hamilton sub-Union, on his inclusion in the All Blacks last season. It was felt that Mr Tuck had gained considerable experience with this team and had fully justified his selection to represent New Zealand. After a good series of games Cambridge were successful in winning the Finlay Cup. the Waikato Junior Championship Cup was won by Mata■mata. The Union was represented at the last annual conference of the New Zealand Rugby Union by Messrs B. Chapman (Putaruru), and T. W. Thompson (Hamilton). •On February 20 Mr T. A. Cooper tendered his resignation as selector to the Union and this had been accepted with regret at the last management committee meeting of the Union. The report concludes with thanks to the St. John Ambulance Brigade for its valuable services during the season. TE AROHA CITY CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of members of the City Football Club at Te Aroha Mr E. V. Fitzpatrick presided over an exceptionally large attendance. . 'The secretary, Mr E. Jackson, read i the annual report and balance sheet, j Special reference to the junior ! teams was made in the report and to * their general good work by way of practice and-regularity of attendance. Appreciation was also voted to the club’s lady supporters for valued assistance. The balance sheet showed receipts £4B 12s Gd, expenditure £ls 18s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £2 13s lOd. The chairman congratulated the club on the result of the past year, and expressed the opinion'that its future was bright. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Dr. W. R- Lawrence; president, Mr E. V. Fitzpatrick; vice-presidents, Messrs' N. G. McLeod, G. Reid, F. Firkin, 'R. Herring, F. Burns, G. Gilchrist, A. Charters. F. Lockver, F. T. Halligan, A- D. Jones, J. Hepburn, G. Gardiner, T. M. Curran, R. Sprague, R. Willis, J. Heathcote, F. Lusby, E. Aislabie, A. D. Jones, J. Hepburn, G- Gardiner, E. Cox, G. Lindsay, C. Morison, S. Page, G. Walsh, W. Bottomley, E: Bygrave, and Mrs Fitzpatrick; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Jackson; club captain, Mr Ivo Grice; selector, Mr J. Heathcote, in conjunction with the club captain. It was resolved that the club’s delegates to the Union be asked to vote for a change of name from Piako to Te Aroha. It was decided to hold the club’s annual social and dance on June 3. It was resolved that the member’s subscriptions be ss, 2s 6d and Is. Twenty-six new members were declared electedBROADCASTING OF MATCHES. jfOT FAVOURED BY CANTERBURY. The Canterbury Rugby Union decided to recommend its delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union to vote against the broadcasting of matches during Hie tour of the British Rugby team.
