LOCAL RIVER BOARD.
CHAIRMAN RESIGNS. APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. An announcement that he had decided to retire from the position of chairman of the Mangawara River Board was mado by Mr L. R. W. Reid, of Te Hoc, at the board meeting yesterday. Mr Reid informed members that he was not fully recovered In health and thought that he would vacate the chair as the election was so near. On account of his health he did not intend to .stand again, and he considered a change might be better for the Eastern sub-division. Later he might, if requested, consent to nomination. Mr Reid referred with appreciation to the way in which the members of the board had worked with him during his long term as chairman. There was a general expression of sympathy with Mr Reid and gratitude with the services he had rendered to the board during difficult times. Regret was also expressed at his decision, particularly as he had taken such an active interest in the swamp amalgamation scheme. Mr Reid has been re-elected chairman of the board for three successive years. A resolution expressing appreciation of the services Mr Reid hacl rendered to the board was passed.
