STUNTING AIRMEN.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In a recent issue of the Times igt correspondent drew attention to the -foolhardy tactics of certain airmen who rejoice in showing their -skill by “stunting” over the town and showing very little regard for the lives and property of other people. I was surprised to see a letter in reply by “ Looping-the-Loop,” who makes a few featherbrained remarks about the matter and tells us that the low altitude stunting is generally done above Steele Park. ; Now, Mr Editor, can anything be more ridiculous than to say that a pilot who has lost control of his machine and is crashing could yet land in that small field? The ’plane no doubt would drop somewhere in the vicinity of the Held, but as it is surrounded with houses it would be about even chances that the machine would crash into one of the houses. We have .so far been fortunate that we have not had to report an accident, 'but no doubt we will get our turn one of -these days, and I think we are only using common sense if we do ail we can to minimise the danger arising from an aeroplane disaster. I think stunting should only be allowed ■over large open spaces, such as over the lake or over the open country on 1 the western side of the lake, where -there is very little settlement. I am, * to '’ SAFETY FIRST.
