THE DOMINION EXECUTIVE. IMPORTATION OF STUD CATTLE. (by Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At the meeting of the Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union a Wanganui remit was passed, urging that the attention of the Government should be directed to the absurd situation of America importing cattle from the Channel Islands and passing them on to New Zealand for sale without let or hindrance, and exploiting New Zealand 'breeders. The remit further urged that the importation of such cattle, sheep, and pigs from the United States of America or Australia should he prohibited. It was decided to approach the Intermediate Rural Credits Board with a view to extending, if possible, to members of Intermediate Rural Credits Associations advances against wool. It was also decided to aslc l’or Government backing to banks and firms advancing to farmers against the security of wool held for future realisation.
The president, Mr W. J. Poison, said he had interviewed the chairman of the Rural Credits Board, who had given a favourable answer to the proposal. A remit was carried urging that the personnel of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board should consist of dairy producers’ representatives only, and that the salaries and fees paid should be considerably reduced.
A protest was made against the Government issuing bonds at a price Ilia I hart so considerably raised the rate of interest at a time when money was indispensable lo the country and its production. It was decided to ask tiie department who was lo provide funds to renew farm mortgages, and at what price the owners would be forced to pay.
