BAY OF PLENTY CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. LE CI-lOUCAS WINS THE TAURANGA CUP. A DUAL SUCCESS TO WELCOME BOY. The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club experienced favourable weather for its annual meeting which attracted a big attendance to the Gate Pah course, at Tauranga on Saturday and was the most successful gathering in the history of this long established club. Cup honours went to the favourite Le Choucas, with Cynthia W and High Pitch in the places, while Town Bird was successful In the Flying Handicap from Taku Tama and Modest Boy. Welcome Boy was a double winner at the meeting, annexing the Trial Plate over Glenlson and Golden Pennant while he was first home in the County Stakes with Golden Pennant and rV3iss Albyn in the following places. The IVJaunganui Handicap saw Chromadyne score readily from Snow Prince and Parfalt Amour; Waitekohe won the Hack Cup in which Otangihaku and Bay D’Qr were the closest of the others; the Qreerton Handicap went to Page Boy, from Taku Tama and King Willonyx while Snow Prince led Caul Is and Valquette at the finish of the President’s Handicap. It was a good day for the well-fancied division.

Welcome Boy and Glenison were in the dividend places, the former wearing the favourite, who had made the pace, dowm on the run home to score easily, j Golden Pennant filled third berth, , with Kiwinui and Primitive the next homeChromadyne at Odds On. High Tide, Neil, Bose Willonyx, Otangihaku and Kilinthia were missing from the Maunganui Handicap, for which nine came out. Chromadyne, from the Hannon stable, was favourite at odds on, carrying £357 more than Snow Prince, with Parfait Amour next in demand. Despite his 9.5, the favourite made a one horse race of it, taking charge before the field had gone far and giving nothing a chance. Snow Prince had a narrow margin over Parfait Amour at the post, while Valquette did best of the remainder. Favourite Wins the Cup. For the Tauranga Cup, Lady’s Boy, Antique, The Lamb, King’s Guard, King Willonyx, Respirator and Brampton were the seratchings. There were nine runners, of whom Le Choucas was favourite, but only £2O better supported than Cynthia X, while Transformer was next in demand. Le Choucas, who began a little belated, was handy at Ihe home turn and gotthe verdict comfortably by a length from Cynthia N, who was responsible for the pace. The latter, who made a good showing at a middle distance, pulled very hard on. the trip. High Pitch was a fair third, with Tinokoa, who is on the improve, going nicely in fourth place. i’CE Main Hack Event, For the Merries’ Memorial Hack Cup there were seven starters, On Top, Brampton, Snow Prince, Master Amour, Squadron, Joy Girl and Index being the withdrawals. Bay D’Or, also from an Opotiki stable, was a neck, off so the easterners shared in the stake. Gaulis, who covered a lot of ground, was next, with Neil, who began slowly, in the following place. An Easy Victory. Good Boy was the only one missing from the ’ Greerton Handicap, for which there were seven runners. Page Boy, from A. Tinker’s Te Rapa stable, w r as favourite with £147 more than Taku Tama, Respirator being next in demand. The favourite ran up to the, leaders before the home turn and " this consistent galloper proved an easy winner. . The favourite began well and readily answered the demands. Caulis reached second place, a length and three-quarters behind the winner, after being in the issue throughout, but having to be kept at it all the way. Valquette was a moderate third, with Otangihaku and Parfait Amour following, the latter going disappointingly after his opening effort. Welcome Boy’s Double. Indolent, Peter Paul, Momonatui, Master Armour, Mu-skall Maid, Bryan and Crcina’s King were the withdrawals from the County Stakes Handicap. Welcome Boy, who was rehandicapped from S.G to 9.2 for his earlier win, but who with Ihe allowi ance to his rider carried 3.13, was an odds on fancy, with £232 more than Miss Albyu, while. Matecr’s team, at Matamata, drew up io the loaders at the turn for home and won as he liked. Golden Pennant (Autumn —-Flagship), a three-year-old half-brother to Nancy Lee, was in second place after being prominent . from barrier rise. Miss Albyn’s prospects were frustrated through a slow beginning. She was third, with Dainty Manners in the following place. A Five Horse Field. The Flying Handicap, the last of the card, was confined to a five horse field, Lady’s Boy, Flying Prince, Good Boy, White Ringlet, Billikins, The Jack Jumper and Glenison were Uie withdrawals. Taku Tama was £l-40 better supported than Joy Germ, with Town Bird next sought after. Town Bird, who had shaped well at. seven furlongs with an Increased impost earlier in the day, soon had charge and staying out the six furlongs, got the verdict quite comfortably. The favourite had some ground lo make up from flic home turn to reach second place, with Modest Boy and Wako King the next to pass the judge.
