j Personal. j Miss .Tudd, of Thames, is visiting Miss E. Vospcr. Mrs J. Price is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mrs l'i. Beaver has returned to Malamata from a visit to Christchurch and Dunedin. Miss Dickie, of Mataura, 5.1., is the guest of Mrs W. S. AVilson. Mrs T. J. Underwood is at present In Auckland. Mrs A. G. Horne, of Pukekohe, has been visiting Mrs G. S. Green. Sister J. M. Fergusson, of “Braeside,” is spending a week in Auckland. Nurse Aroa, of Hamilton, is relieving at Matamata Public Hospital. -Mr and Mrs Mehrtens have returned from a trip to the South Island. Obstetrical Society. A house-to-house canvas is being made by the laides of the district in aid of the establishment of the Obstetrical Chair at the Otago University. Dance. An enjoyable dance in aid of the Roman Catholic Church funds was held in the Town Hall on St. Patrick’s Night. Dancers attended from many of the surrounding districts and the music was supplied by Mesdames W. Ryan, T. Cotter, Misses P. Whitworth and E. Kirk, and Messrs Holland, White, Pennell, and Collins. Mr G. Fitzgerald acted as M.G. Enjoyable Evening. About CO local residents spent an enjoyable evening at Mr and Mrs E. .T. Robertson’s home at Taihou on Tues- j day. Dancing and games on the lawn ! and a ping-pong tournament provided ! the chief amusements. As a result j Ihe Presbyterian Tennis Club funds j will benefit to the extent of £.l. Progressive Euchre Evening. A very successful evening was held by the Matamata Croquet Club on Wednesday in the Rialto Rooms, when i a large attendance enjoyed a jolly j game. The ladies’ prize—a 501 b hag j of flour—was won by Mrs Prouse, and ■ the gentlemen’s prize—a ham—by j Mr S. Kemp. The hostesses were Mesdames Barton, Stoncx and G. Stewart. Farewell Party. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in St. Andrew’s Hall on Thursday by j the ladies of the Presbyterian Guild j and the P.W.M.U., who combined to farewell two church workers —Mrs F. j .Tones and Mrs W. S. Wilson, who . are leaving shortly on a trip lo Eng- j land. The ordinary business of the : P.W.M.U. was taken first, and an in- j feresting address was given by Mrs; Hampton on Maori missions. Later a small presentation was made on behalf j of the two societies, Mrs Hampton j wishing the travellers a pleasant tiipj and hoping to welcome them home j again.
