THE FARMERS’ UNION.
WOMEN'S DIVISION. The Morrinsvillc branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union met in the .Masonic Ball after a two-months’ vacation. Mrs. Walker, president, occupied the chair. On the completion of the usual routine business the branch proceeded to discuss the appeal which had come from the Obstetrical Society and which is at present before the general public of New Zealand. Committees vvere formed for town and country respectively and arrangements were made for a house-to-house canvass to raise the required amount of money.
On February 26th., when t'he overseas visiting farmers were present for a short time in Morrinsville, members of the local branch of the division assisted in their entertainment at the horticultural show by the contribution of cakes and the exhibition of produce and flowers. At Oakura a very successful little social evening was organised on behalf of the Obstetrical Fund and a very satisfactory sum was realised. This branch also combined with Inglewood in serving morning tea. provided for the visiting overseas farmers and their wives. Pahiatua this month held a social afternoon instead of its usual monthly meeting. Mrs. James, of Masterton, gave a most comprehensive address on home nursing with demonstrations of invalid bed-making. A most enjoyable garden fete was held by the Balmoral branch, Canterbury, and the proceeds amounted to over £SO. The arrival of a division housekeeper has greatly stimulated interest in the union in this district.
