RUGBY FOOTBALL.
THE PIRONGIA CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Pirongia Club Mr J. L. Macky occupied the chair. The accounts for the year showed a credit balance of £1 Bs, in addition to the banked proceeds of the last football concert. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: Patron, Miss E. J. Miller; president, Air S. B. Siffleet; vice-presidents, 'Messrs T. Brown, W. Woolston, W. Bell, S. Thompson, A. Hood and- 'T. Steel; delegates to Waipa Rugbv Union, Messrs G. Silvester and E. j". Miller captain, vice-captain, and team manager; management committee, J. L. Macky, J. McL. Livingstone, R. A. Grace, J. Miller and G. Silvester. It was decided that the subscriptions be 7s 6d, 5s and 2s 6d respectively for senior, junior and third grade players. Air R A, Grace suggested that the ■delegates to the Union keep in closer touch with 'the management committee than had been the case in the past. While there appeared to be very little prospect of a district schemes. Mr Grace suggested that the delegates be instructed to advocate it. it was resolved that boundaries be advocated by the club delegates. Air Silvester said -there were three or four junior and the same number of third grade players available from Paterangi and possibly a senior or two alsoA suggestion from Mr Silvester that the club provide two jerseys and three pairs of pants as emergency rigs for each team was adopted. The following team managers were elected: —Seniors, Mr Macky; juniors, Mr Silvester; third grade, Mr S. Thompson. Delegates were instructed to oppose rep. matches early in the season. Home-and-home club matches with Rovers and Te Awamutu were to be sought. An opinion put forward that the club, through its delegates, should take a keener interest in union affairs generally was endorsed. Mr Buchanan pointed out that as Mr Steel had the Domain football ground well worked and free of weeds it was an opportune time for the -club to get’busy and see that it was grassed in preparation for next season. Members of the Domain Board, who were present, undertook to sec that the matter was dealt With at their next meeting.
MATAMATA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Alatamata Football Club, presided over by Air .T. P. White, was well-attended. In his opening remarks the chairman congratulated the senior team on its success in winning the the Barry and Concrete Cups, and also the junior and third grade teams on their positions m the respective competitions. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mr J. P White; vice-presidents, Messrs C. E. Barry, V/. Clover, W. Egan, J. 11. Haw-es and D. Roigard; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. Sarah; management committee, Messrs D. Ensor, ; S. Ellery, W. Clover, Hitchcock and D. Roigard; selectors: seniors, Mr L. W. Aiehrtens; junior, Mr H. Jones; third
grade, Air P. Laurie, sen.; delegates, Alessrs D. Roigard, L. W. Aiehrtens and S. Sarah. It was decided to enter teams in each of the.three grades, colours and subscriptions to be the same as last year. Application is to he made to the Rugby Union for the use of the training shed on Thursdays. The delegates were instructed to support the nomination of Air J. E. Cummings as president of the union. The first practice is to be held on March 29, and the secretary was instructed to arrange matches with Patetere on April or 12. An interesting discussion took place on the club’s attitude in regard to reversion to the old rules, and the delegates were instructed to vote in favof retention of those in use at present. New members elected w r ere Messrs Carlson, Davy, Gardiner, Hodge, Palmer and Short.
