The total idle now are 3,000,000. The Greater Backer steel works are faced with the alternatives of either reducing the cost of production or closing down. The workers approached toe directors and suggested a 15 per cent cut in wages, meaning an economy of £6OOO on toe yearly wage bill of £400,000.
