SPORT ON GOOD FRIDAY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir —One does not have to be a ‘wowser” or “spoil sport” to express oneself very strongly on the action of the Waikato Cricket Association, which has been reporte das deciding to arrange a cricket match for Good Friday. This is the one day of ail tne v-ear that so far Jias remained immune from the modern craze for sport, ana still more sport. In view of the opportunities for cricket matches on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday and in deference to at least 90 per cent, of the population, who, if not religious, sympathise with religion, the Waikato Cricket Association shout immediately reconsider its ill-advised action. The association would not think of arranging a match on a Sunday. What then has induced them to do so on Good Friday', the Sunday ol Sundays and the most solemn day of Christendom? It can only be ignor- / nee on their part of the real signific-ance-of the day and its meaning to thousands of people. It is pleasing to see that the meeting was not unanimous in its decision. The association will be committing a grave breach of civil and social etiquette if it persists in its intentions. —1 am, etc., SECULAR.
