COLLIERY CRISIS.
RE-OPENING OF MINES. ATTITUDE OF THE SEAMEN. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel.—copyright. SYDNEY, March 21. There is considerable activity on some of the northern collieries, notably Richmond Main, where deputies, pumpers, and railway-men have commenced to work. The deputies and all the engine men offered for work at Pelawmain colliery pit, and the ponies have been brought to the Aberdare Extended mine and t'he machinery is being tried. The Betibird colliery is another where preparations for opening are being made.
At Newcastle the seamen declare that they will not handle Rothbury r coal. This is interpreted to mean that the seamen on inter-State ships will not handle any coal produced at the associated pits when they recommence operations.
