SIR HUBERT WILKINS.

FUTURE PLANS. SUBMARINE IN THE ARCTIC. RESEARCH IN ANTARCTIC. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel.—Copyright. NEW YORK, .March 19. Sir Hubert Wilkins arrived to-day. He slated that lie would immediately begin conferences with engineers and technicians relative to a proposed Arctic submarine expedition from Spitsbergen to Alaska. The expense of Ihe undertaking, as well as the difficulties of preparation, were giving him the most concern, but lie believed the necessary arrangements would be made. Speaking of the Antarctic work just ended, lie said: “.My explorations by air have shown that the coastline of the Antarctic Continent is on an average eight degrees further south than had hitherto been believed. We have chipped off eight degrees from the edge of the continent.” He explained the difficulties they had in communicating with RearAdmiral Byrd. Although the latter’s radio station was the nearest to them communication with it could only he arranged through San Francisco. “We were very anxious to know all about, Rear-Admiral Byrd’s attempt to lly to Ihe South Pole but it, was not until three days after the flight had been made that we got news of it.” The explorer said he felt lit and he appeared to be in excellent physical condition.
