TE AROHA CLUB. IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE. The Te A'roha Jockey Club has accepted the tender of Mr P. Baine, at £BOO, for the completion of Lhe new racecourse, which will bring lhe expenditure in this connection up to £3400.
TE AROHA NOTES
FROM TRACK AND STABLE. CROWN ARCH STILL UNSUCCESSFUL (Special to the Times). TE AROHA, Friday. The form shown of late by Crown Arch has not, been in consonance with his condition or track efforts. He cannot be improved much in condition, but lie is not yet a forlorn hope, and during the autumn may again attain winning distinction. Valstreet Settling Down. Valstreet, now a member of G. A. Reid's team, will be competing again before long. He is being given the right work, and looks like settling down to real business. He lias shown that be is speedy, and may be in nice trim lo compete at Te Rapa next month. Another Stable Addition. The latest addition to the occupants of G. Reid’s boxes is a rising two-year-old by Lapidary. She is a half-sister to Valstreet, is well grown and exceptionally well set up. Ou appearances she should be a galloper of merit. Taurimu Returns. Taurimu, bred by Mr J. McNiool, of Warrakau, and trained for some time by A. E. Cox, is now an inmate of M. Lipsey’s stable. He is to compete at the Opotiki meeting. He lias furnished considerably during his long respite from track work. The Lamb Fining Down. As inferred recently The Lamb was a little too much on the big side to cope with better conditioned horses in the meantime. His racing at Paeroa has had a beneficial effect, and the Lord Multilid gelding may not be long before striking winning form, lie cannot yet be counted as a back number, but can hardly be expected to •score until he is in real racing trim. Black R/laire Ready to Race. Judging by his work Black Maire will not be long before he again carries his owner’s colours. He should, at anv rate, be ready to race at. the emulate the deeds of other representaquife likely that ho may be running well over middle distances/ St. Warrigal at Stecplechasing. St- Warrigal made his debut as a steeplechaser at Paeroa on Monday last, when lie galloped and jumped well up to a mile and a half when he fell. For a big horse he lias his share of speed, and is a fine jumper, and there are iiopes that lie maj yet emulate the deeds of other representatives of St. Amans over the country. White Ringlet for Opotiki. It is intended lo take White Ringlet over to the Opotiki meeting where she is nicely treated in regard to weight. The little mare runs well in small fields, and may add to her winning list before long. Potoanui a Probable. , Mr J, Hanks’ Potoanui ran well in the Steeplechase at Paeroa on Monday, taking into consideration the fact that he lias not long been re-com-missioned. If is expected that he will lie in nice racing trim by Easter, when doubtless lie will be racing at Eilerslie. Te Aroha Course. The contractor for Ihc final work in connection with the new course ; has already commenced operations. : The contract includes ihc enlargement ! of the saddling paddock and birdcage, and many chains of new J cueing necessitated in the altered shape of the course proper and training tracks. Sir Russell on Firm Ground. j If would appear that Sir Russell is best suited to tirm tracks, l'or at | Paeroa oil Monday lie ran right up to I his best form. His lessee-trainer i would not have been greatly surprised if lie had been beaten by Maori Boy, hut was naturally well pleased at the improvement shown by the Archiesj town gelding compared with his Te j Aroha efforts. Town Bird for Tauranga. Town Bird is to be taken over to the Tauranga meeting. In the matter of appearance lie has improved considerably since rejoining G. A. Reid’s team, but in staying ability lie may be bet- ! lered. The Archicsto.wn gelding has been schooled over jumps lately ' and this may be the means of effecting I improvement in his running on the I Hat. Kanui Spelling. The Abcrbrothoek mare, Kanui, trained here for some time, has been returned to her owner at Tauranga-o-Moana. She showed speed on the local tracks, but latterly appeared to be affected hi the wind. Master Latour Out of Commission. The General Latour gelding, Master Latour, has gone back to bis owners at Morrinsville. C. E. MaLlowes had him in splendid racing condition, but lie appeared to lack staying ability. It may not be long, however, before he is again in work. Latest Track Work. At the tracks yesterday morning Black Maire, who is very forward, strode nicely over two rounds. Miss Albyn and The Lamb went together over five furlongs, and there was little to choose between them at the finish. Indolent moved well over six furlongs, but Crown Arch appeared to move rather short. Gold Day, carrying a little over 6.0, skipped over three furlongs in 371sees, and Town Bird ran live and a half’ furlongs a down lull slope, and carrying a light weight, in i.9sec. Ah Wera bowled along over a couple of circuits very freely, finishing in fine style, and Terrapeen showed pace over the last three furlongs of a round, dir Russell trotted once round and cantered another, brushing home freely. Antique was allotted steady work, and is coming back to form. The half-brother to Sir Russell, by Lucullus, shaped well in a couple of nunds at half pace. Glen-star and Valstreet were out., but were not worked. To Start To-morrow. The To Aroha horses for the Bay of Plenty meeting leave here to-day. O. A. Reid is taking Terrapeen and Town Bird; E. A. Cox, Indolent, Miss Albyn and Glenison: C. B. Wallace, White Ringlet, and M. Lipsey, Taurirmi.
