HELP NEEDED.

STRUGGLE FOR TRADE. APPEAL FOR BRITISH WARES. While not offering excuses for the British manufacturer for his seeming neglect to cater for the Dominion markets, Mr Arthur Canham, secretary of the British National Union, in an interview, stresses the fact that the Mother Country needs the help of the Dominions at the present time almost as much as he did during the war. Discussing farming -jmatters and conditions generally at Home, Mr Canham said: ‘"The Old Country needs the help of the Dominions at this stage as much.as she did'during the war, and if New Zealand, as she then ■ did, poured forth men and treasure into the great struggle, I feel sure that in peace, when the Old Country needs your support, it will be forthcoming, it is impossible not to observe the tremendous strides foreign trade has made in the New Zealand market, and while perhaps the responsibility for this rests partly upon inefficient methods and perhaps apathy on the part of British manufacturers, I feel ■that there is still room on the part of New Zealand people for the exercise of goodwill towards the products of British manufacturers.

“There is no question of New Zealand’s loyalty,” said Mr Canham. He thought that it only needed a little more enterprise on the part of the British manufacturers, combined with ihe goodwill of New Zealand people, to very greatly improve in the immediate future British trade returns with New Zealand. He quoted the old saying: “He gives, twice who gives quickly,” and said that now was the time New Zealand could help British trade. When the British farmers returned Home no effort would be lost to make British manufacturers acquainted with the great market which was waiting for them in New Zealand if they would only cater for it.
