THE FRANKTON CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. PROSPECTS FOR SEASON BRIGHT.

Another contender for senior championship honours in the coming Rugby season, the Frankton Club, held its annual meeting last evening, the president, Air T. Tyne, presiding over an enthusiastic , meeting of players and supporters. There were over one hundred present. The chairman, in expressing pleasure at the large attendance remarked that the interest shown certainly augured well for the approaching season as far as the Frankton Club was concerned. The past season had been a happy, one and present indications pointed to the coming session eclipsing all previous records. Tile annual report disclosed a successful 1929 season, all teams beiii. well represented on the field.. The Clarke Cup, was annexed by the senior team, who had the splendid record of winning live of the six games contested. The other game was a drawn one. The fourth grade team won the Pascoe and Smallwood Memorial Cups while the thirds were successful in the "B” section of their grade and were runners up in the one round competition. All team subscriptions were collected with the exception of two defaulters. Donations to the club over the season amounted to £4B 3s 10d. A special picture night, organised by the secretary, had proved a financial success, but the re-union, while a social success, was not supported as it should have been and the venture showed a loss as a result. Training Shed at Rugby Park. As far as finance was concerned a most satisfaclory season had been experienced, the income amounting to £ll2 Us lid and expenditure to £lOl Os 3d- As an outcome of the thirds’ visit to Onchunga early in the season, supporters of both the .Manukau and Frankton Clubs subscribed lo a shield for annual competition. The shield is to be known as tiie Williams, Syers Shield in honour of the secretaries of both clubs. The shield was now in the possession of the Frankton Club and will be played for at Hamilton early in the season. Mr Udy, the club's representative to the union was honoured by being elected to the position of chairman of the management committee. A further honour to the club was the inclusion in the Hamilton representative team of five members J. Hooper, L. Scott, W- Bayley, IT. Charleston and E. Everest. Several senior players were also selected to play in the Waikato Representative fifteen

A scheme was under way for the erection of an adequate training shed at Rugby Park, and the union was to be congratulated on its efforts to make ibis urgently needed acquisition lo Hamilton Rugby possible of fulfilment- Tile scheme bail ihc full support of the Frankton Club and members were ready to assist in the necessary work of construction. A tribute to the club’s hard working secretary, Air P. A. Syers was paid by the chairman. It was largely due to his efforts that- the club had experienced such a splendid season, both financially and socially, he said. Gold medals for club competition were presented by Messrs T- Tyne, 11. D. Ailken and 0. Cool. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Air C. J. Parlanc; President, Air T. Tyne; vice-presidents, a lengthy list' was elected; secretary and treasurer, Air P. A. Syers; assistant secretary, Air F. Pickup; delegates to (he Hamilton Rugby Union, Messrs- W. Udy, 0. Castles, P. A. Syers; club captain, Air G. Oxenliam; coaches, seniors, Air R. AlcWilliams; seconds, Air 0. Cast.les; thirds, Air AY. Williams; fourths, Air G. OxenhamThe four coaches and Air N. Hamilton were appointed a selection committee. Drs. T. A- Milroy and T. C. Fraser were unanimously elected to the positions of honorary surgeons The general committee for the ensuing year will be: If. D. Aitken, N. Hamilton, F- Pickup (snr.), J. Hooper, W. Udy.
