IRRELIGION IN RUSSIA.

MASS OF EXPIATION. CELEBRATED BY THE POPE. EXPOSITION OF SACRED RELICS. United Press Asm.—dec. Tel.—Copyright (Received March 20. 12.45 p.m.) VATICAN CITY, March 19. Huge crowds at St. Peter’s Cathedral attended a Mass of Expiation offered by the Pope at the Apostle’s Tomb for the profanation of the church and offences against the Majesty of God in Russia. As the Mass started, the bells of every church in Italy tolled its protest to the Soviet. Pope Pius was borne to the Cathedral on a raised chair carried by six men, and was preceded by the clergy and officials of the College of Cardinals. Their arrival was announced by blasts on silver trumpets. After the Mass there was an Exposition of the Sacred Relics, including pieces of the True Cross, the veil of St. Veronica and the spear with which the side of. Christ was pierced. PARIS, March 19. Hundreds of Russian exiles thronged to Notre Dame when Cardinal Verdier sang the High Mass of Expiation, similar "to that celebrated in Rome.
