DAHLIA TONINGS.

TWO PURPLES OF THE SEASON. Fashion has a way of playing favourites with purples. In a season like the present browns in general are in favour —wood brown, nut brown, golden brown, dark brown, and light brown- Last summer greens

were specially prominent—no-t one or two greens but greens generally. Purple tones, however, are seldom in favour in a general way. Fasir.cn never gives a blanket order for purples. But almost always there is some one—or possibly two- —-tones from the top of the rainbow that carry with them the cachet cf smart, fashion. This season there are Iwo such tones—dahlia and wood violet. Of the two the dahlia is especially favou"cd by French dressmakers. It is a tone that is best reserved for Ike more formal type of afternoon dress.
