VISIONS OF GREAT WEALTH

HOW PEOPLE ARE DELUDED. \ Visions of wealth that have deluded hundreds of people all over Britain vanish into nothingness as the result of investigations recently concluded. Those folks who regarded themselves as potential claimants to the so-called “-Metcalfe Millions” are assured that this fortune is hut a myth. Their hopes .were raised some time ago by a tale that went round to the effect" that a Metcalfe, who hailed from Upper Wharfedalc, had died in America, and left an estate valued; at £3,000,000, which was lying in trust awaiting distribution to descendants who could make good their claims. The result was a host of communications from so-called descendants. The story excited particular interest in the Skiplon district, where there arc many Metoalfcs, some ol whom asked solicitors to assist their claims. Unfortunately no concrete evidence was forthcoming of the existence of Hie legacy. Among the correspondents were some who, after making exhaustive inquiries, placed definite information at the disposal of Mr Arthur Metcalfe, 'dentist, of Opcnshaw, Manchester. with the result that an investigating eommitt.ee was appointed. The committee examined evidence on the subject garnered from all parts of (he country and abroad. The result of their investigation is the following unanimous conclusion.

(1) That there is no such fortune as is slated hold in Chancery Courts of Britain, nor is there any evidence that there ever has been.

(2) That Hi ere is no evidence that there is, or ever has been such a fortune held by any bank in the coun-

(3) That there is no evidence that there now is such a fortune held by any court, bank or trustee in any other country or colony. Mr Metcalfe stales that during his investigations tie found; cause to believe that an organisation, nvitli headquarters in tiie United States and agents in various countries, exists for the purpose of circulating false stories of these mythical fortunes, deriving an income from those imagining that they may have some claim-
