CHARGES OF FRAUD.
BUSINESSMEN EASILY GULLED. MENTAL PATIENT’S ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Tress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Alexander Harrison, aged 22. a motor mechanic, charged with obtaining money by fraud (eight counts), pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentence. Counsel said the offences were committed at Oamaru and Christchurch, and are the aftermath of accused’s escape from Seacliffe, where he had been a mental patient. It w-as remarkable to think that large business llrms had been deceived by accused. His appearance was against any suggestion that he was the son of a rich man. Doctors had said the offences were probably due to accused having injured bis head in a motor accident.
