RUGBY FOOTBALL.
MATANGI CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of members of the Malangi Rugby Football Club, in the absence of the president Mr E. Shaw was voted to the chair, and presided over a moderate attendance.
A comprehensive report covering the activities of the club during the past season and the annual statement of accounts were submitted by the secretary. .Mr S. E. Entwistle. Following favourable comment by several members on matters outlined in the report, the satisfactory financial position of the club and its prospects for the approaching season the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following weer elected officials subject to their acceptance: Patron, Mr F. Lye, M.P.; president (re-elect-ed), Mr C. 11. Dunford; vice-presi-dents, Messrs E. J. Swann and A. Pretty (re-elected) and F. Goodwin; secretary and treasurer, Mr Eric Shaw; committee, Messrs G. Smith, 11. Litoeau, and R. Cranston (re-elected), and M. Casey, C.'L. Strong, R. Taylor and F. Goodwin;, club captain, junior team selector and delgeate (pro-tern) to the Cambridge Rugby Union, Mr R. S. Entwistle. It was decided to enter the junior and third grade teams in the forthcoming Cambridge Union competitions. It was agreed that the annual subscriptions should he the same as last year—viz., juniors os, third grade players is Gd, and non-players 2s Gd. With reference to the club’s activities in Malangi during the coming season the question of a playing area was left In the hands of the committee. A resolution expressing the club’s appreciation of Mr Hugh Baird’s generosity in allowing the use of his grounds during the past year was carried unanimously. . A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr R. S. Entwistle, the retiring secretary and treasurer, for valued services rendered.
The first practice was fixed for Saturday.
TAUPIRI FOOTBALL CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taupiri Rugby Football Club was held in the hall, Mr Tapper being elected to the chair owing to the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr Bilkey. Last year’s- balance-sheet, which showed an expenditure of £lO5 and a balance of £3 10s, was received and passed. The election of officers for the coming season resulted:—Patron, Mr F. Lye, M.P.; president, Mr L. Powell; vice-presidents, Messrs C. M. Glccson and B. Whitehorn; secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Davies; management committee, Messrs N. Wilson, A. Button, J. h. Wilson, D. McKercher, E. P. Tapper, F. Wilson, F. 0. Day; ’ delegates to Rugby Union, .Messrs L.'j Powell, E. P. Tapper and N. Wilson - I ■- lib capiain. Mr D. Smith. | Subscriptions were ffi'xed at 5s for j -’uiors and 2s Gd far juniors.
