The Marquis of Ripon left his sick bed in order to attend a special Cabinet meeting to consider important despatches from Egypt. January 24. The Cabinet discussed the Egyptian question to-day for four hours. The despatches from Cairo are of an alarming nature, and represent the natives as insulting European women. The English press supports Lord Rosebery's action with regard to Egypt. Only two battalions will be sent to Egypt to reinforce the British' troops, and those will remain in Alexandria unless there is a serious disturbance, [t has been arranged that the Second South Lancashire shall go from Malta and tho First Black Watch from Gibraltar.

The Sultan has congratulated the Khedive on his attitude during the recent crisis.
Cairo, January 24. The excitement in Cairo is spreading to the provinces. . The Khedive assures the people that the English will be defeated.
It is stated that the Porte concurs in the action of the English. The troops now in Egypt, three thousand strong, will he reinforced hy a thousand more. It is understood that Lord Cromer threatens to dethrone the Khedive if necessary. Cairo is already placed under the control of the British troops.
