FISHING AT OKOROIRE.
We luu'o referred from time to timo to tho success of tlio Auckland Acclimatisation Society in stocking tlio streams about Oxford with trout. Last year Mr John Coom, of the Railway Department, was successful in catching a few small fish, and Mr Metcalf, of Hamilton, hada similar experience.. This season a number of Auckland gontlemen, amongst them Mr A. Bull, aro reported to liavo enjoyed soiiib excellent sport in tlio streams of this vicinity. Not ,til be behind hand .'after hearing the good news our local sportsman, Mr I', W, Browning thought he would try his luck, Leaving for Oxford by tho fast train on Saturday last, we were not kept long waiting for results, as by the express train yesterday afternoon ho sent Mrs Gwynne : 3even beautiful fish, weighing together over 191b, varying in weight from about IJIb to lijlb, for distribution amongst his "friends in Hamilton. The fish, we should say, are of the variety known as Rainbow trout and first introduced from America, From the range in site and weight of the fish, it is clear not only' that they have been bred in the stroams in which they were first liberated, but from their condition it is also equally clear and satisfactory that the waters of the Upper Waikato stroams aro eminently suitable to them, As wo remarked before when alluding to this subject of the successful, stocking of our streams with, fish, there;is scarcely anything more''calculated to increase and divert the toun>t traffic in. tliis direction than the affording of gobd fishing'with the other pleasant surroundings to ho found in the well-appointed hotelsboth at Oxford andOkuroire. ."j. > 1 •«<i -
