The Wmkato Tim Office, Friday. WAIKATO MARKETS. MKSSHS W. i), HUNTKB reports:-At Mesirs Rogers and Sons' salo at Tamahere on Monday, tin re was a large attendance [rum all parts of the district. Ridding was brisk especially for horse stock which realised satisfactory values. Prices wore: •1 h.p. engine, £3l; mowing machine, £ll 10; dray and frame, £fl;S. F. (dough*, £2(is to £2 lis; D.F. plough, £7; throe F. ploughs, £l77s6d; disc harrows, £sl2a fid ; tino harrows, to £2 2s lid. Pigs, Cs to lis fid; 18 months steers and heifers, £2 9.i to £2 14s; dairy cows, £4 2s (id to £5 lis; empty cows, £3 to £3 13s (id; active medium draught horses, £ls to £2O. At my sale at the Hamilton Borough Yards of Mr Wise's horses on 'ihnrsday, a good attendance of buyers were present and a good demand existed for draught stock, a larger number would have found purchasors had thoy been offered. The extra demand just now is duo to the number of ploughing contracts on hand. Horses.suitable for this class of work brought frcm £lo,to £l9; buggy and harness, £19155; double-furrow ploughs, £7 10s to £ll 10s. Hacks and horses of a lighter description wete dull of sale. For other clients Mr Hunter found buyers for several horses, and a buggy fetched £l7 10s. At Ngaruawahia, yesterday, not so many cattle as usual were yarded, but all sold. Tho privileges of the Ngaruawahia Racing Club's meeting caused keen competition, an! sold as follows :- Gates, £35 10s; publican's boat!), £11; temperance booths, 12s Gd and 15s; cards withdrawn, only £2 10s being offered. Cattle sold as follows: Fat heifers, £4los to £5 ss; empty cows, £3 12s to £4 ( 10s; weaned calves, mixed sexes, £1 Gs to £ll3s; yearling steers, £2 2s to £3 Gs; springing heifers, £3los to £4; two-year-old steers, £3lss; dairy cows, £4 10s to £o lOi; 74 two-tooth shorn wethers, 10s; draught horsos, £lO to £lsloa. Mil MoNICOL* reports :-At Ohaupo on Tuesday last about 300 cattle were yarded all of which were sold at prices a shade lower than at previous sales. The 80 advertised from Taupo were principally big framed steers and cows in forward store condition, and were a choice well bred lot and found ready salo. Five and six-year-old bnllockf,£ol7s6d to £7; three and a-half and four-yoar-old steers, £s2s6d to £6'; two to threo-yoar-old steers, £3 7s to £4 15i; yearling steers, £2 8s j steer calves, £116.i to £llßs. Big framed ompty store cows, £3 Is Gd to £3 lGs; three-year-old heifers, £3 Is; fifteen months old heifers, 37s 6d; fat cows, £4 7s Gd to £4 14s j shorthorn bulls, £5 12s Gd to £lO. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS, Messrs A. Buokland and Sons' Re-ronT,-At the Haymarket during the past week meadow hay has brought from 2s 9d to 3s 3d tho cwt. Maize, in wholesale pareels on the wharf, has brought from 2s 9d to 3i Id the bushel. A truck of choico oaten chaff at the station £4 2sGdthe ton. On Friday a larger lot of horses than usual were offered, Prices for unbrokon medium draught colts were from £ll to £1310; a pair of black carriage geldings, £lGlos each; useful medium strength harness horses. £8 to £l3, No Sale of hides and sheepskins held. The wool sale has been published in detail. The salient features were that best wools maintained values given in fir.it sale j inferior from Jd to jjd a-pound less worth; locka and pieces fully ono-tliird less value than at last season's salea. At Wainku,on Saturday, cattle of all classes sold froely, and full values were obtained for them. A draft of grown steers trom Pokekohe, in fresh condition, averaged £sl4s. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows at their profit, in usual supply, wsra in brisk demand. Prices ranged from £4los to £0 10s each. Store cattlo.in moderate number, sold freely at late values. Two-year-old steers, £1; 12-months,old calves, mixed sexes, 455; dry cows, £2 Is Gd to £4, Calves in usual number were better worth, graziers competing with the butchers. Fat cattle in averageumnber,l9B yarded, were firm; good steers were 22s and 23s the lOOlbs; steers brought from £G to £lO IBs; cows, £4 to £G 5s oacb, Sheep in moderate numbers, but no wethers of prime quality yarded.wera no better worth ; wethers were from 9s to 13s j owes, 7s to lis Gd each. Lambs, in usual number, kept their late valuos; prices (or fat lambs were from 8s to 10s Gd ; store lambs, 4s to Gs each; 053 sheep, 402 lambs yarded, Ties all of good quality, and from light to medium weights; 42 yarded, were more numerous than for several weeks; they were required, and sold' freoly, bringing about 3d the lb live weight. Prices ranged from 14.i to 33s each.
Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly REPORT.-Horsefeed, grain, seeds, etc.: There has been very little doing, and no noteworthy alteration in values. We quote: Oats, 2s fid per bushel: maize, 3s 3d; bran, £4 per ton; oaten chaff, £3 to £4 per ton. Horses: A good many riding horses have been brought forward, but none of the higher priced ones changed hands Ordinary hacks and others in usual numbers were rather dull of Bale. There was a larce muster and numerous attendance at the Durham Yards on Friday, but bidding, save for a few exceptional lots, lacked spirit, and several remained unsold. The thoroughbred Calvi sold for o'O guineas; brown pony Dauphin-L'oness IS guineas; chestnut colt Cantor-Zip, lagninoaajhrnwn mnreHaiden, £l2; brown pony Hauranei, £l4; hacks, from £4los to £l2; light harness horses, £5 to £lll7s lid. Wo >l, hides, skins, etc.: Wednesday being the day appointed for the saennd wool sale of the sories, there was no auction sale of bags, hides, or skins. At tii" wool s>le there was a good attendance 'of' Southern buyers, and for good clean samples of crossbred fully the prices ruling at the previous sale were given. We catalogued 728 bales, amongst which were several lots held over from the previous sale, which realised Jd per lb mora than was then offered, many lots of crossbreds soiling at 8d per lb, Cattle: The number brought forward have been short of requirement*, and a larger number of all classes would have found purchasers at the previous week's valuos. There was a short muster at Newmarket on Tuesday, Competition was brisk throughout the sale, and prices had an upward tendency, beef reaching 24s per 1001b, Some averages of steers were: £9 ss, £S 15s, SS 3* 3d, £7 8s 9d, £7 Gs 3d; cows, £G 7s Gd, £slss, £5 7s Gd, £4 15s, £4 2s Gd, £3 lis. Sheep were in moderate supply on Tuesday at tho Newmarket yards, and prices were a shade higher. Wethers sold at from lis Gd to 13s 9d; ewes, 10s to 12s 6d ; lambs from 3s 9d to 10s 9d. Pigs: Scarce, sold at 2|d per lb live weight
AUCKLAND WOOL SALES, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under date : Auckland Wool Stork), Thursday.— On the 11th inst. we submitted our second catalogue of the season, comprising 1,064 bales of wool, 828 of were quitted by auction at full rates, Prices woro on a par with the closing sale of last series, The attendance of buyers was full and the bidding was brisk and animated, particularly for the finer qualities. We'again had the pleaiiu.ro of topping the market at BJil with the half-bred wool grown by Mr N, A, Larney, of Lanriston, Jforrinsville. We quote values as follows: —Half-bred, 7fd to BJd; crossbred fine, np to 8d; crossbred medium, 5Jd to 7Afi; longwools, Gd to 7d; merinos, 5Jd to Brt; bellies and pieces, SJd to 4d; locks, up to2}d;.lambs, sJdto6J(l.
