WHAT IS THE BEST CROSS FOR DAIRY PURPOSES.
It is difficult to answer this question, It can only be dono so in a general way. So much doponds on the land and all surrounding circumstances, For really good land the Shorthorn crosses aro well suited, Wo recently saw at Tai Tapua herd of cows belonging to Mr, R. Rainoy (Chairman of the Tai Tapu Butter Factory), amongst which; were several half-bred Holstoin cattlo, bred from a pure Holstein bull, purchased from Mr, John Grigg, put to a good class of Shorthorn cows, Tho result is ft grand milking oow, To use Mr.:Rainoy's own words, "Only give these half-bred cows'plenty of good feed, and tboy will give you' rivers of milk,'" and indeed they looked like it. On tho other hand, where feed is not so plentiful, ,1 cow of less capacity must be selected, such as the Ayrshire and its crosses, and thoJorsey.
