The Waikato Times Office, Friday. WAIKATO MARKETS. Mr W. J. Huntf.r Rkpobts.— At the Hamiltan Yards, on Thursday, December Bth, the yards were well tilled with a Rood class of cattle. Buyers were in attendance for all classes, and spirited bidding ensued. Mr Coop's dairy cows being young and useiul animals sold readily. There were no sheep yarded, and but few horses, tor which there is little demand. The following prices were obtained :—Good cows, £4 5s to £5 15s; weaned calves, £1 Is to £1 15s; yearling steers, £2 83 to £3; yearling heifers, £2 to £2 6s fid ; store cows and heifers, £3 5s to £4; 2J to 3£ years-old steers £4 6s to £5183; fat cows and heifers, £5 to £7 5s ; fat steers, £7 Is. Mr JNO. McNicol reports: At Cambridge on Saturday last I held a very successful sale of horses etc. A few well-bred cattle yarded soli at good figures. Yearling heifers, £2 Ss; two-year-old heifers, £2 12s 6d to £3 ; two-year-old steers. £3 12s 6d ; fat cows, £5 12s. The 20 horses overland from Napier were a young sound and well selected lot of 'bus and coach sorts and found ready sales, bringing from £12 to £17 10s; strong cobs and pack horses, £7 to £8 10a ; pair well matched ponies broken to double harness, £12 12a; ponies and aged hacks, ?2s 6d to £5 10a. Saddles, 30s to 47s 6d. I had only a small muster of cattle at my Hamilton sale on Thursday last, but those yarded found a ready sale. Store cows, £3 5a to £3 15a; fat cows and heifers, £4 5s to £5 ss; fat steers, £7; two-year-old steers, £3 19a; dairy cows, £4 to £5 4s; Buckeye reaper and binder, £12; draught horses for farm work, £10 to £13. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Messrs Honter and Nolan's Report.— Horae feed, grain, seeds, etc. : There has been an unsatisfied demand for good maize, and quietness has jharacterised the market without noteworthy alteration in value. Horses have been in improved demand ; an increased number have been brought forward and found purchases at a slightly increased value. There was a large muster at the Durham Yards, on Friday, and almost without exception all were disposed of. We quote :—Hacks at from £5 5s to £15; light harness and medium draught from £5 5s to £14 7s Gd; heavy draught from £15 to £20 sa. Cattle: The supply has been short of fat beast?, and other descriptions were in average numbers and Bold readily. There wis no noteworthy alteration in values of beef on Tuesday. Steer beef brought 20a to 235; cows, 18a to 22a per cwt. Some averages of steers were £8 15a, £8 2s Gd, £8, £7 3a 6d, cows £(! 10a, £6 sa, £0, £5 17s Gd, £5 Ga 3d, £115 a, £4 sa, Sheep were penned in average numbers, and were a little lower in value than the previous Tuesday. Shorn wethers sold at from 13s to 15s; ewes, 9s to 12s ; lambs. 5s t ) lis 3d. Pigs very scarce. Wool, hides, skin, tallow, bones: As Wednesday, the 7th instant, was appointed for the Hrst wool sale of the season there was no sale of hides, etc., held. There was little change if any in the value of wool as compared with last year, taking into consideration that the staple was not quite so marketable, but the fleeces were heavier. The bulk of purchases goes South. Longwool ranged from srd to Bid; crossbred, 6Jd to 7Jd ; merino, 6Wto7d. Mkssrs A. Buckland and Sons' Report.—At the Haymarket during the past week, meadow hay has brought from ts Gd to 2a 9d ; Wheaten straw, Is Gd ; oaten
sheaves, 3* to 3a 9d the cwt; raaize, on the wharf, 3s Id and 3s 2d the bushel. On Friday, horses were broHght forward more numerously than usual,and many remained unsold. Tho9e sold kept late values, Strong draught brought from £13 to £20 : medium, £7 to £10 ; inferior, from 30s upwards. A double-seated buggy brought £20. Shropshire rams, £4 4s; Romney Marsh, £3 3s each. Consequent on the annual wool sale, the sale of hides and skins was not held. There will be a large supply on Tuesday next. At the wool sale, held on Wednesday, there were more buyers than hitherto, and satisfactory prices were obtained,the few lots passed being afterwards disposed of. Prices were in some instances higher than for the same clips last year, but in most cases Jd to per lb lower. At Remuera, on Tuesday, dairy cattle in usual number, were dull of sale ; those sold ranged in price from £3 10s to £0 ss. Store cattle in full number, IGO sold; late values fully sustained. Fat calves in moderate number, 41 sold j generally of choice quality, scarcely kept late prices. Fat cattle in full number, 220 sold ; were lownr in price than last week ; prices ranged from 19s to 22s the 1001b. Sheep plentiful, 1400 sold; store sheep better worth than lajt week, fully 2s each. Fat sheep barely kept last week's values, and store ewes shorn were from 4s (id to 5s 6d; ewes, lambs at side, in their wool, 7s each, all counted ; fat wethers, shorn, 10s 3d to 13s 6d ; ewes, 7s (i'i to lis; hoggets, in their wool, lis 9d to 13s 6d. Lamb 6 in uuual number, 359 sold, were at late values; store lambs brought from 4s to 7s ; fat lambs, 8s to 12s 6d each. Pigs yarded in less than usual number ; were all in condition for killing, and of light to medium weights ; prices were from 15s to 30s each.
