RAGLAN.
Licensing Meeting.—The quarterly meeting of the Karioi licensing committee, was held in the Court House, Raglan, on Saturday, December 3rd, Messrs Gilmonr (chairman), Campbell and Pegler attending. The only business brought before the conimittee was the application of Mr Geo. Moon, of the Harbour View Hotel, to tiansfer his license to Mrs A. Swan. After the inspector's report of the house, describing the present premises and reporting the conduct of the house to be good had been read, plans and specifications for addition and alterations of the present premises were placed before the committee for their inspection at the request of the chairman. Mr Langley, the owner of the premises, gave the committee an outline of tho proposed improvements. He stated that in his opinion that if another g«od house was erected it would be the means of encouraging a large influx of tourist and travelling public, for whose accommodation at the present time, it was much required, and that from plans, etc., the committee would see that they were about to erect a house of that character. The application for transfer was granted by the committee.
Visrrous' Season. — The season for visitors has come round again, and although the weather of lata ha 3 been anything but inviting, yet a good number of Waikato and Auckland residents have been over. Mr E. Lake, M.H.R., with Mrs Lake are staying at Mrs Kenny's, and Captain Shiitlewortand Messrs Murdoch and 80..th have been at Mrs Swan's. Ca.pt. Davenoy was here last week. A good number of gentlemen have been staying at Mr Barlow's Royal Hotel. Flax Industry;— During the past winter most of the flax-mills in this district have been kept busy, and a considerable quantity of dressed flax lias been produced. Owing to the advance in price, a fresh impetus has been given to the trade. Messrs Langley Bras, have started their Kawhia mill, and Messrs Burton and Galvan have made a purchase of the Pakoka fkx-mill from Mr Bregman. and are now putting out a considerable quantity of flux each week.
Ropr-.VILL.—The r.me-makers at Mr Rendell's Wainui mill, Pilot Station Reserve, are turning out a considerable quantity of rope of all kind?, and of excellent quality, most of which finds a ready local sale, whilst the remainder is sent to Auckland. This mill, too, has been steadily at work all the winter. Wkathkk.— The weather still continues showery, and en Saturday and Sunday barometric readings were very low, nnd on Sunday night there was a very severe gale for some hours from the north-west. Some damage was done to fences, fruit trees, etc. Monday was fine, but rain came on again at night, and continues showery this morning (Tuesday). Shearing operations, in consequence, have been much delayed. It is now sixteen years since we had so much rain fall as during last month in this dis trice. A spell of fine weather would now be much appreciated by the settlers.
