The following letter a* 1 statement was addressed to tho Editor of the Times .• — Sir, —The letter on this subject from me which you were good enough to insert in your issue of the sth inst. has evoked so much comment, and, I regret to add, so much unbelief, that at the request of several correspondents a more detailed statement has been prepared and signed in full by all the players. I enclose a copy of the statement referred to for publication if you can grant us the further favour of the necesbary space in your columns. —I am, Sir, your obedient servaut, T. D. G. New Club, Brighton, April 12. New Club, Brighton, April 9, 1892. We, the undersigned,being all members of the New Club, Brighton, make the following etatemont :— On the 21st day of March, 1892, we sat down to a robber of whist. Two new paoks of cards were supplied and opened in our presence. We cut tor partners, with the result that Muggeridge and Gardner were the two lowest, and Buckley and Galpin the two highest, Mugs;eridge being the dealer. Buckley dealt the pack chosen by Muggeridife irregularly into five heaps face downwards. He then took them into his hands, and, having shuffled them agaiu, said, ' I will give them " thr> Yorkshire poke," ' and poked a few cards through from the centre. He then passed them to Mugtreridee, who said, 'I nhall'] not take "the Yorkshire poke," I will give them '• the Devonshire poke." ' He then shuffled them in his hands, and also
