THE BABCOCK MILK TEST IN WAIKATO.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sib, —In your issue of Tuesday last I noticed two letters commenting on, or rather complaining of the unsatisfactory results of milk testing. In the same issue I also noticed an nrticle headed " The Babcock Milk Test." This was only a few words frim one of our clever American cousins, but it speaks in the highest terms of this wonderful pieces of mechanism. In the great U.S.A., where other methods of milk testing have failtd, the Bubcnck test gives every satisfaction, why then should it not do likewise in small and comparatively insignificant Waikato ? It is fortunate for Reynolds and Co. thnt all their dealings are not carried on with men who possess Mr "Milk-supplier's " wonderful reasoning powers; I for one have the fullest confidence in the integrity of this firm, although I do not know its members personally. Mr " Milk-supplier" mentions their tariff of prices, which he says, no one can understand ; let him speak for himself, for it seems to me simple enough to be understood by any public schoul child. I have witnessed the testing and know it to be just, and thoroughly undirstoad by the operator. Reynnlna and Co. pay suppliers according to the quantity of butter fat contained in the milk—we cannot with reason expect to be paid the same for cream that does not produce butter or butter fat, which is the same thing. As to Reynolds and Co. always commencing their rounds to their different creameries from Pukekura, I hear, their reason is that it is of the oldest standing I daresay it is also their most convenient starting place. However, as I am not a Pukekuraite that has nothing to do with me, and I do not mind from where the "key note may be struck "; not even if it should be in Mr " Milk-supplier's" cow i yard. I am satisfied (and I am sura the majority are the same) that Reynolds and Co do the best they can for their suppliers as well as themselves; those who do not think so should take their milk where they will be better paid, and even the firm itself would be forced to own such proceedings quite fair. Go where one will there is always a grumbler to be found, and I am afraid Reynolds and Co. will find many. Ah ! well may bo it i 3 an amusement to some ; but I like to see justice wherever it may be, and this is my only excuse, MiEditor, for trespassing so long on your patience.—lam, &c,

I'aik PLAV.
