WAIPA COUNIY COUNCIL
A MEKTIKQ of the Waipa County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, yesterday, There were presant: Crs, F. W. Lang (chairman), H Kusabs. J. B. Teasdale, J. U. Elmsly, E. C. Shepherd, A. Smith, J. Anderson, G. Finch, aud E. Exelby.—Mr A. Armstrong, County Engineer, was also in attendance.
Engineer's Report.—The Engineer reported that in compliance with instructions, he had inspected the road adjoining Mr Teasdale's property on the Tβ AwamutuOhaupo Road, re briars, and that he lind found none growing on this particular section, though there were plenty on the next lot at the north-end of the section, and also on the road side. The Mangapiko Kiver forms the southern boundary of the land, and on the Te Awamutu side a large quantity of triars is to be seen.—Referring to instructions, re county mad through Kihikihi, certain portions of the road were in a rather bad condition during the past winter and should be gravelled, if funds permit. The portion requiring attention is about twenty chains in letigth.—lt was resolved that work be done to the value ot £20 upon
this road.—Another portion of the Kihi-kihi-To Awamutu road where it had been graded, near Btidgman's, also required gravelling before next winter.—lt was resolved to do the work (about sixteen chains) at tu early date.
Accounts.—Payment of the fol owing accounts was authorised :— J. Ericksiln, £2 l"n; R. Fleming, £2 ss; W. Siiuter nnd Co., £0 17s Gd : O. McCallum, £7 Sβ 10d ; H, 1. Sibley, £110s: W. Bear, ley, 67 5s 10J ;W. Given, £110s ;A. Armstrong £10 8s; .). Rochfort. £10 13s; (J. Giles, £2 14s and t'3 7s ; McNaul, £'8.
Overpaid.—Mr R. W. Dyer, solicitor. Hamilton, wrote on behalf of Mr J. M. Ingliam, asking for a refund of £2 i* 2d, amount paid for rate-;. The nses of the case »re that Lot 153, Horotiu, was sold by Messrs Cochrane and Son, in November, 1891, under the Ratine Act, t'j Mr Garret, for £12 10s. In D.-cetnber Mr Ingham paid £2 4s 2d to Mr N. T. Maunder for amount of judgment and costs, not knowing tho land had b?en sold, and he now asked that the amount be refunded. The clork was instructed to enquire inti the circumstances.
Rest.—Mrs Finch, Alexandra, wrote, enclosing cheque for £5 4s 21. for amount of rent due for redoubt paddock, and offering £2 per annum for the future. The offer was accepted, it being considered the paldock was not worth the same now as it had been in years' past.
Balance —Mr D. Cronin wrote asking the Council to pay the balance of nn account due to him of £2 10?. The engineer explained that as tar a.s he knew, the Council did not owe Cronin anything. The matter was left iu the engineer's hands to settle.
Tkndkrs.—The following tenders were dealt with :—Contract 103, grading a portion of the Te Awamutu-Ohaupo road. The only tender received for this work was considered too high, and fresh tenders are to be advertised for. Contract 104, forming and sanding a portion of the Te-Awa-miitn-Alexandra road : J. Conn, formation, 2i (!d per chain; clearing both side ditches, 2s Cd per chain ; carting and laying pipes.Cl per chain ; sanding, 12s per chain, and if sand taken from his place, 13s per chain. NcNaul ]3ros. : forming, 3s per chain ; clearing side dr iins, 2s 7d per chain ; carting and laying pipes, 10s Gd per sot; sanding, 5s Gd per chain if taken from cuttings on road ; 12s per chain if taken from Dick's fall; and l(is per chain if taken from private proberty. — Cr. Klmslny moved that McNaul's tender be accepted.—
Seconded by Cr. A. Smith.—Councillor Teasdale moved that as an amendment that fr.'sh tenders bo called as the price is too high.— Seconded by Cr. Kusabs.—The aiiendment was put and lost and Cr. Elmsley'd motion carried.—
Contract MiJi, forming and gravelling Cam-bridge-Ohaupo Road between the Waikato Bridge and Shakespeare-street : The only tender received for this work was coneidered too high, and fresh tenders are to be called for.—Contract No. 1(JB, forming and sanding a portion of the Ohaupo-Cam-bridge Road, near Mr Willooghby's : T Cowley, for forming 3s per chain; gravelling, 10s 0d per chain ; side ditches, 2s (id per chain ; pipe*. 10* (id per set. This was the only tender received, and was accepted. —Contract No. 107, forming a portion of the Hunilton-Ngaruawahia Road, from Captain Steele's : T. Jones, formation, 0s (id per chain : pipes, 8s; side drains, 2i (id per chain. E. VVayte, formation, us per chain ; pipes, 11s per set; side drains, 3s perchain.--Wayte's tender was accepted.— Tenders are to be called for the lease of the buildings known ns the officers' quarters in Alexandra, and also for certain sections in Alexandra.
DieyACLTEBS. —The clerk was .authorised to sue those persons who are two years in arrears with their rates, the places of hearing the oases being left to his discretion. Funds.—The bank credit balance was reported as £2:")3 l'Ji 10d.
Kkippnku's Road.—lt was resolved that the Council tind the timber for a culvert at Krippner'a crossing if Mr Krippuer will find the labour, the culvert to be erected to the satisfaction of the engineer.
