The candidates for the Presidency are :—Republican, Harrison ; Vice, Reid ; Democrats, Cleveland and Stevenson ; Farmers' Alliance,GeniTil Weaver and Field; Temperance Party. Bid well and Cruupill. The result will be known to-morrow. November !). There has been heavy voting and considerable excitement over the presidential election. General Weaver, the " people's party " candidate, carried Colorado and Oregon. Mr Cbveland is assured of heavy majorities in Texas. Louisiana, Missouri, and Alabama, and has secured soveraal Republican States. His estimated majority iu Congress is 13J. It is reported his majority in the Electoral College will be 50. Mr Cleveland carried New York State by a majoritv of 20,000 ; New York city by 70,001- Brooklyn by 10,000. He also hid large majorities in Carolina, Virginia, New /ersey and Indiana. The weather keeps fine, and the elections are carried on without any disturbances. Several persons have been arrested on charges of impersonation. London, November 9. The result of the Presidential election in the United States is popular in commercial circles in England, and a modification of the McKinley tariff is looked for. New York, November^. Mr Cleveland's election is now assured, as he possesses a majority of 34 in the Electoral College. It is ex pected that ho will have a majority in the Senate in addition to a majority of about 100 in the House. The Democrats carried Illinois, California, Michigan, and the Fanners' Alliance Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. Mr Whitclaw Reid was defeated in his own district. The Australian system of ballot is a pronounced success. During the progress of the election in Anderson County. South Carolina, a Republican supervisor killed four Democrats. Mr Harrison has secured a majority in Ohio and Pennsylvania. November 10. At a meeting Cleveland polled 277 votes in the Electoral College Harrison 135, and General Weaver (Farmers Alliance Candidate), 32. The Southern States voted solid for Cleveland, as also did Connecticut, Washington, Montana an I Wisconsin. The democratic party gained every whore. The Senate will probably be composed of 45 Democrats, '38 Republicans and the Farmers Alliance. The result of the election is considered to have sounded the death knell of the McKinley Tariff. New York State sends two Democrats, to the Senate , for the first time in fifty years. Mr Harrison welcomes his defeat exceptor party reasons.
