PIAKO COUNT Y COUNCIL
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Piako County Council was held at Morrinsville, on Tuesday last, (chairman), Heaney, Horrell, Herries, J. Present: Councillors W. P. Chepmell, Browne and S. Seddon. New CtBBK.—Mr P. Gilchrist, the newly appointed clerk to the council, was present, and read the minutes of the last meeting, on which a long discussion took place as the acting clerk had fully repotted the proceedings which took place whilst the Council was in committee re the appointment of a clerk showing how every one had voted, To this report exception was taken it being contended that the proceedings in committee were of a private nature ana should not be made public property, after the dinner adjournment the Council resolved that the minutes of the committee meeting beeipunged from tha minute bonk, and that Mr G-ilchrist bo appointed clerk and treasurer to the County Council. Hospital Subsidy.—The Secretary of the Waikato Hospital Board, wrote asking for a further instalment of the county contribution to the Bo.irJ funds. It was res solved that the county pay the amount (£293 15e), as soon a3 the funds will permit. Waharoa Okmbteky Road.—Rβ road through cemetery ground at Waharoa, the chairman of the Matnmata Road Board wrote stating that the Road Board would consider the matter at their next meeting. Oate Across Road at Maungatautari. —Mr Bridgman complained that a gate on the Maungatautari road, erected by Mr Vosper, was a nuisance. The engineer, Mr Sandea, and Councillor Seddon showed that the gate was not in the Piako County at all, and it was resolved that the Council take no action in the matter. Lath Olkkk's Dkfalcations.— Mr Hetherington wrote sayiug that he had not received a receipt for rates paid to Mr C. Tuck for himself and Mr Hornibrook last June.—The clerk was instructed to look the matter up and see if the cheque had been paid into the county account. Vaile Testimonial. — A circular and subscription list re the Vaile testimonial was laid on the table.
County Council Conference.—A letter was received from the cltrk <-f the Waitemata County Council asking for a contribution of 30s towards the cost of printing the report of the proceedings of the late County Council Conference in Auckland. — The Council resolved that if an account was received from the printer it should be paid forthwith. Alteration of Rate Roll.—Ar. apphoation was received from Mr John R. McCall asking to have the name of Mr Donald Barclay substituted for hU on the valuation roll.—The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to comply with the application. Tramway Rent.—Mr W. McLean paid £10 on account of the Te Aroha tramway. —Cheque received. Tenders Gordon Settlement Road.— The following tenders were received for various works on the Te Aroha-Lichfield Road :-Contract No. 1: Jas. Orr and Owen O'Grady, £45 16s; John McLend, £24 17s 6d (accepted).—Contract No. 2: Jas. Orr and Owen O'Grady, £35; S. Davey, £29 10s (accepted); John McLsod, £44 15s.—Contract No. 3 : B. Montague, £25 11s ; Jas. Orr and Owen O'Grady, £19 13a (accepted); J ohn McLeod, £22 15s.— Contract No. 4 : B. Montague, £22 Is ; Jas. Orr and Owen O'Grady. £22 12s ; P. Moriarty, outfall drain £3, whole work £20 12s (accepted); Reuben Parr, £27 2s, drain at 15s per chain. Contract No. 5 : B, Montague, £20 (accepted); Jas. Orr and Owen O'Grady, £20; P. Moriarty, £22 10s; Reuben Parr, £22; H. J. Hawkins, £24 15s.
Waikato-Thamks Main Road.—lt was resolved that Mr Pavitt caU for tinders foe ballasting the road and clearing out the drains for about three miles on the Wai-kato-Thamee road from Annandale towards Te Aroha, past Larney's farm and Jjarkworthy. OroROiRE Sanatorium Road.—lt waj resolyed to keep Barker on as surfaceman on the Okoroire-Sanat'irinm road for a period of six months at the samo rate as he has been hitherto employed at. Removal of County Offices.— Cr. Herries proposed that it is desirable that the office of the Council be moved from Cambridge to Morrinsville; He poiuted out that Morrinsville was the most central place in the county and he understood that the owners of the township would facilitate the matter by giving an allotment t>> build an office on.—The resolution was seconded bv Cr. Horrell, and supported by Cm. Heaney and Browne. For the motion there voted Crs. Chepmell, Herries, Browne, Hoaney and Horrell. Against: Cr. Seddon. —Motion carried.—The clerk was instructed to write to the owners of the township of Morrinsville, asking them on what terms they would give an allotment in the townbhip (or the purpose of building a county office thereon.—lt was thought that the owners of the land would willingly convey an allotment to the Council free of cost (except conveyance expenses) in order to get the headquarters of the county fixed definitely in the township.—The question of erecting offices for the Council in the event of the land being obtained was deferred until the next meeting. Oxford-Matamata Road Repairs.—Mγ Sandes was instructed to repair the drains fronting Mr Hutne'a property at Mangawhara, where the recent floods did considerable damage.
