FIRE AT HAMILTON.

The residence of Mr C. Kelly, Forest Lake, near Hamilton, formerly occupied by Dr. Carey, was totally destroyed by tire shortly before 5 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. Nothing certain is known of the origin of the fire, as Mr and Mrs Kolly had left in the morning to attend the Agricultwal Show at Claudolands. It is, however, surmised that the workmen on the place, after cooking their mid-day meal, had not properly extinguished the fire when leaving, and that some embers must have fallen on to the floor, resulting in the unfortunate destruction of the house and contents. The men, who were working some distance off, did not observe that the house was on fire until it was bursting through the roof, and on reaching the house fcund it was impossible to save any of the contents. The house, we understand, was insured for £250, and the furniturti and effects for the same amount, both policies with the Royal Insurance Company. The loss will be a heavy one, as Mr Kelly has only recently renovated the house, and the furniture was all practically new.
