WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the Waikßto County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Hamil f an East, yesterday. Present: Cra. A. Primrose (chairman), J. Barugh, H. J. Paton and F. J. Johnson. Funds.—The treasurer reported the state of the riding accounts as follows : — In credit : Rangiriri, £59 Hs 6d; Kirikiriroa, £93 16* 5J,d. Debit : Tamahere, £31 12s 4d; Cambridgo, £57 Hs O-Jd ; Model Farm account, £128 7s 6d.—The bank account stands at £59 2s 7d in debit. En'Gimeerin'G.—Mr E. Fairbum. of Parnell, Auckland, wrote in answer to an advertisement appearing- in The Waikato TrMES of September 29th, offering his services as engineer to the Rangiriri outlying district on the following terms : —To receive £1 Is per diem for the actual time taken in travelling, survey or inspection work, and in preparing plans and specifications ; also to receivo railway fare and horse hire when required to go into the interior, and also to he repaid expenses incurred for survey labour when tho latter is found necessary, and as cortified by voucher; railway fare aud travelling time to be calculated as that which would bo required when starting from a point not more distant from a terminus of journey than Hamilton, and a fraction of a day to have reference to a unit of eight hours.—r Cr. Johnson moved that the services of Mr Fairburn be accepted.— Seconded by Cr. Barugh and carried, nem. con, Mbbemerb.—Mrs Smithy wrote asking that tho road from Meremero to Whangamarino ba repaired, as it was at present quite impassable.—The Council resolved to pay one-half of tho cost if Mrs Smithy contributes the other half.—The work to be done will cost about £7. Tramway.—Mr Gerragh'-.y wrote asking permission to make a tramway to his flax mill at Rangiriri, from the river. Tho request was granted provided no obstruction was made. Maungakura.—Mr R. N. Douglas wrote saying that the bridge over the Maungakura had broken down, and lie had with great difficulty saved his horses, but had lost a lot of provisions. Cr. Johnson reported having seen Mr Douglas, who bad offered to put up two briigesat a cost not to exceed £S. The offe. - was accepted. Cow.—A claim was received from Messrs J. B. Harris aud T. Connolly, of Huntly, for a cow, value £7; which had fallen into a hole on the roadside. Mrs Schlinker wrote, also asking for compensation for a cow, £7 10s, which is evidently one and the same claim. The Council did not recognise any responsibility, and the letters were received. Tenders.—Three tenders for work to bo done on the Matabura road were received, but being too high wore deferred for two weeks, the chairman being authorised to opeu them. Mataiidra.—The engineer is to ho instructed to confer with Cr. Johnson as to work to bo done in the Rangiriri Outlying District, and to report to 'he Council. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed far payment: — Jjirss, i'l IJs Od ; Lindsav, £4 10s; GwvnueUi, £1 Is ; Clerk, 10s ; "Forrest, 10s; Fitzgerald. £3 8s: Flanigan, £1 Gs; salaries, £12 10s; travelling expenses, £2 10s; Hanson £-1; Bruoe, £S Hs fld ; Neill, £1 5s ; Clark, £1 ; Hertman. £4 3-.
