RAGLAN.

Home Mission'.—During the last week the Rev. Mr Gittos has been on a visit, to this district in connection with the Wesleyan Home Mission and Maori Work. In consequence of the very unsettled weather prevailing daring his stay, many of the services did not take place. Service was held in the Wealeyan Church, Raglan, on Sunday evening, October 16th, when he preached to a good congregation. Mr Gittos proceeded to the Hot Springs, where it was his intention to hold servicc with the natives on the morning of Sunday last aud with the Europsans on the evening of that day. Steamer. — Tiie N.S.S. Company's Glenelg (Capt. Austin) arrived here from Onehunga on Thursday, morning last, bringing a largo number (fourteen) passengers for this place, besides general cargo. She also brought a large quantity of timber for building operations, proceeding after discharge of c.irgo etc., on her way to Wangaimi, etc. On Monday morning she called in again on her way up to Onehunga. BoiLDis'iis.— For the past few months a number of buildings have been erected in the district, both as dwelling-houses and for other purposes, and there are several others about to be built, large quantities of building material arriving by almost every steamer. R.M. Court.—Before Messrs Wallis and Mitchell, J.P., KaiKeio, alias Shortland, for being drunk was fined and costs, this being his first offence. Alfred Collins was charged with unlawfully and maliciously killing a certain dog, the property of Clement Newton, by striking the said dog with an axe. Constable Cavanagh conducted the case against the accused. Messrs Bill ford, Lumber, Spurling, and Newton were callcd to give evidence for the prr.s?cutins, and Messrs Loane and Paris for the defence, the latter evidence showing that whilst the dog was killed by the accused (which the evidence of the prosecution also showed) yet no malice was shown in so doing. The case was dismissed, there not being sufficient e *idencc to support the charge.
