The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report under date: Chiustchuhch. September 23.—Wheat: Toere is no improvement to note in the demand, and, being confined to the exigency of the local millers, the business passing is only to a very moderate extent. The market from week to week is continually showing a downward tendency. Really prime wheat is in very few hands, and will be a i required before the season is out, the holders of which are under the impression that prices now demanded will eventnalU have to be paid. We quote bf.st milling velvet and Tuscan, 3s 3d to 3s Gd ; ext.a prime, held for 3s t)d to 3s lOd ; medium to good, 2s Od to 3s 2d.—Oats : The position of the market does not mateially differ thN week from last; a moderately lair demand exists, and a much larger business could be dohe if buyers could secure their requirements at a slight concession on prices asked, ,-J)tit the quantity on hand being within a v'eVy small cempass holders are not over anxious to quit except at prices on the basis of those lately current ; and as far as we can see at present those are likely to remain good. We quote best feed and milling, Is lid to 2s ; medium to good. Is <Jd to Is 10J; inferior to medium, Is od to Is Bd.—Potatoes : The business done in these is only from hand to month, merely supplying local wants, ami consignments being continually in excess, prices never rally, which are— for best Derwents, 27s Gd to 30s ; inferior to medium, 15s to 25s per ton (ex stove, sacks weighed in).—Chaff : The market has been kept fully supplied for some time back and with less consumption prices show no improvement, and are : for best, 50s to 53s ; medium, 42s Gd to 47s Gd ; inferior, 30s to 40s per ton,— Dairy Produce : Very little business is being done in this line.
