Mr Hann's dairy (stock being am"iigst the number. These consisted chiefly of hacks if medium quality ; good harness and draught horses being in short supply, though any present that showed fair breeding elicited keen competition and realised satisfactory prices. As bidding was rather spirited, most of the horses were sold under the hammer or immediately after the sale. We quote: Draughts, £137s Gd to £20; light harness horses, £7 2s Gd to£!) 15s ; hacks up to £10 17s (id, —At our usual fortnightly Manaia sale there was a good entry of stock, the majority of which were of a useful class ; but owing to high reserves the bulk of what was offered passed in under the hammer, and very little changed hands befoiv, leaving the yards. We quote : Two-and-a-half to three-year-old bullocks, £-1 (is to £4 Ss ; 12 to 18-months mixed cattle, £1 15s to £2 ID? ; heifers in calf, £3 3s (id to £-1 5s ; choice dairy cows, belonging to Mr R. September 23.—Store Sheep : This department was represented by a number of small lots chiefly, of all descriptions—about 2000 in all. Buyers Were in strong attendance in quest of sheep to convert the abundance of feed in view into money. It is almost needless to say that good competition was the order of tho day, and a clearance was make at satisfactory prices, to wit :—Good crossbred hoggets, 13s to 15s 7d ; cross-bred ewes, in lamb and lambing, 12s Gd to lGs ; merino ewes (a nice line) with lambs at foot, at 13s Gd ; cross-bred wethers at 15s i)d, and merino wethers at 8s to 9s.—Fat Lambs : A fairly good entry sold at 14s to 19s, the demand being good for best sorts. —Fat Sheep: Ratiier over an average supplv was penned, merino wethers preponderating. Prime cross-bred freezers were, for quality, better represented than for some weeks past, and cross-bred ewes were scarce. The demand for heavy-weight freezers was good, and prices showed a slight hardening on lute rates ; that for sheep which required finishing was dull, better prices being obtained in tho store pens. Cross-bred ewes sold well. Tho quality could scarcely be excelled, and values obtained will give some idea of weights, ranging from 21s Gd to 17s 3d per head, and averaging 18s Gd.—Fat Cattle : Yesterday's entry of beef was numerically a light one, but included a large proportion of very prime steers and heifers. The demand for trade requirements exceeded tho supply, and keen competition ruled throughout the sale, resulting in one of the best sales for twelve months past, values obtained being as follow-.—Prime heavy-weight steers £8 to £10 12s Gd, good cows and heifers £6 to £8 ss, and lighter steers £0 10s to £7 15s. — Store and Dairy Cattle : A large entry of young cattle met a ready sale. Yearlings made 40s to 51s. and IS-month and two-year-olds 50s to £3 10s. Grazing cows sold well, and good milkers commanded increased value.
