DISTRICT OF WAIKA TO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
Thb usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers, 11.30 a.m., yesterday. There were present: IMes-si-.s Lang, Herries, Davies, Chp.pnell, Anderson, McGuirk, Coates, Heaney, Browne, Bond, Seddon and Salmon. In the absence tf Mr A. Primrose, chairman, M- Lung was voted to the chair. Shaw.—\V. Shaw asked for a reduction of the expenses fur the treatment of his son, as he was only 12 years of age, from £(> 12s to £4, which latter amount he forwarded. The request was acceded to. FJTZI'ATRICK.— Mr J. S. Bond wrote stating that as the police nad reported to him that Fitzpatrick was in a starving condition, he had authorised temporary relief being granted to him. Mr Bond's action in the matter was confirmed. A lengthy communication was read from Tl. B. Fitzpatrick and on the motion of Mr Coates, seconded by Mr McGuirk it was resolved that- the letter be not received. Mr Bond said that Fitzpatrick will not go to the Hospital as he says that he is afraid that he will be quietly put out of the way if he were to 50 there. He moved that the relief of 5 s per week be continued. Seconded by MrSeddon and carried. Bylaws.—Dr. McGregor, Inspector of Hospitals, wrote approving of tile by-laws as amended bv the Board. Reports.—ln his monthly report the Secretary stated that there were 20 recipients of charitable aid, and 13 inmates in the refuge, one paying for his maintenance. Finance: Bank credit balance. £213 12i 31; subsidy due by Government, £2ti3 (is ; contributions due, £88!) !)s 3d ; subsidy 011 same, £880 9s 3d ; Hospital fees receivable about £100; endowment rents, £10. Totd, £2,395 16s !)d, less accounts to be paid, £23!) 12s lid, leaving a balance of £2,150 3s lOd. The expenditure for the month amounting to £23!) 12s lid is made up as follows:—Salaries and wages, £157 15s ; Industrial schools, £12 2s 3d ; outdoor relief, £8 19s; drugs, £18 2s ; clothing for refuge, £10 lis 5d ; fuel, £11 Is Od ; Auckland Hospital, £0; other ordinary expenditure, £134 Is 2d. Since la*t meeting £43 18s, endowment rents, had been received and paid into the bank. The report was received and adopted, Examination of Norses.—Mr Davis moved that all correspondence in connection with this subject be forwarded to Dr. Me Gregor with the object of having a central board of examiners appointed. Seconded by Mr Bond and carried. Mr Teasdale here took his seat. Murray's Lots.—Mr Jas. Kennedy, of Kihikihi, wrote offering £2 per year far three years, for the rent of Murray's hits in Kihikihi. It being pointed out that there was a good orchard on the property the offer was not accepted. The Secretary reported that Murray had died on Tuesday, and had made over the land tu the Board. The Secretary was instructed to call for applications for the lease of this property to be in at next mepting. Return" Wanted. —In accordance with notice given Mr McGuirk moved that the secretary be instructed to prepare a return showing the number of patients admitted into the Hospital f-om eacli contributing district since the establishment of the institution also showing the number of days each patient was in the Hospital, the amount of fees charged, the amount paid and the amount .-till due. The return to be laid before the Board at the annual meeting in November.—Seconded by Mr Coates and carried. Lot 21S, HA.Mtr.TON'.—Mr Coates asked who was responsible for this lot which was leased to Mr von Stunner, but he now repudiates any responsibility. The land is being now overgrown with furze and bee lining a source of danger to the neighbouring properties. Lot 101 and 103 were also referred to as being overgrown with furze.— It was decided that these lots be cleared of furze and the fencing of 218 completed, Mus Butler. —Mr Coates moved that relief to the extent ;■£ 5s per week be granted to Mrs Butlei, whose husband lias deserted her and she has five children under 13 years of age dependent on her.—Seconded by Mr H. M. Salmon and carried. Relief.—The usual monthly relief with addition of 5s per week each to Mrs Butler and R. B. Fitzpatrick was ordered to be continued until the next meeting of the Board. Co.S'tributinc! Bodies.— Mr Coates said that he intended to give notive lo bring forward a motion to have the Counties of 13 a iit Taupo and Kawhiu brought into the contributing bodies to the Hospital district but lie was not decided as to the proper form in which to move.—These counties were not contributing to any Hospital district but the residents were receiving equal benefits to those residing in the contributing districts. After discussion he moved that Messrs l'rinirose, Lang, and Chepmoll bo appointed a committee to determine what steps can be taken in this direction and report at next meeting.— Seconded by Mr Davis and carried. Chloroform.—Mr Chc(imoll said that lie was not present at the last ineseiiig of the but. in the report in Tj/i-: W.vikato Times he noticed an account of £li passed for administering uhlur>t"nn. He was surprised at this as now that there were two medical men 111 Hamilton he thought that they would have been glid to attend and administer chloroform gratis. Ho moved that the Drs. Kerr and Brewis be asked if they will administer chloroform gratis at the Hospital when required.—Seconded by Mr Teasdale and carried, Mr H.
