KARAMU.
The Kani'm District School was lately examined by Inspector Crowe, who came a day earlier than was expected, but found both teacher and scholars prepared. The result was highly satisfactory and gratifying to parents, scholars, and teacher. The following is a summary :— Number on roll, 2S ; absent, 7 ; excepted, 2; passed, HI; failures, 0; percentage of passes, 07"S ; percentage of failures, 0. The Inspector also reported the discipline, order, and tone as excellent. These results could hardly be buttered, and reflect great credit on the teacher (Mr D. L. Smart), and the settlers arc lo be congratulated upon having such an i-lficient and painstaking teacher. The school possesses a first-class library, £10 being subscribed by the residents and supplemented by the Board of Education. This enabled the committed: to purchase over a 100 volumes, which are shortly to be. augmented by twenty or thirty.—The residents have also applied to the postal authorities for a more expeditious mail service from here, and have hopes of seeing the present service altered with the incoming contiacts. Our letters hitherto have been taken to Raglan and lain there for two or three days, and then forwarded to Hamilton. This was a great inconvenience, and the j mail usually sent was a small one. the j settlers preferring, whenever p >=sib'e, to ! send their lelteis to Hamilton, thus ill- ' sluing immediate despatch. — ((J.nimuni- j cated).
