At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce a resolution was passed to the etfect that the nianaeeniant of tho railways by a non-political board had been eminently successful, and tiie independence of such board from the control of the Ministry of the time being was essential. The Government Railways Amendment Bill now before Parliament would, if passed, be prejudicial in its effect, in that it would reduce the position of the Commissioners to that of mere dummies.
