Mutual Improvkmknt Socibtv. — The Tnkekura Mutual linproveinent Society met tit OembridKfl W«st on Friday evening, the Kev. J. H. ipimmnnds presiding. The programme consisted of impromptu speeches by members. Most of them attempted to speak cm the subjects allotted to them, and these worn afterwards duly criticised. At the conclusion the following questions were Imndi'd in:—"ls the Higher Education of Women Uesirable?" "What is Education?" "Who is the Greatest Man in New Zealand ? Tell What You Know About Him, 'Is Ordinary Work as Satisfactorily DonoNow-a-rtays as in Former Times?" " How Can we Improve our Character and the Lives of our Neighbours?' "How Can we Make our Homes H.ippier?" "la Marriage a Failure?" "What Should the Ladies rto to Make the Men Propose ?" " Is Tobaccosmoking Injurious t> the Rising Generation?" Every member will be expected to give some information on one or more of these topics, but it seems probable that time will not permit «f them all being brought up for discussion. The order, therefore, will be decided by vote.
